Vape supplier Phoenix 2 Retail has announced a recycling plan with an aim to inspire vapers to dispose in an eco-friendly manner.

Phoenix 2 Retail is set to roll out over 200 recycling units this month, followed by a further 5,000 units by the end of the year, subject to retailer agreements. It aims to reach 15,000 retailers by the following year, ensuring at least one recycling unit per store.

“We know everyone sees the colossal impact single-use vapes have on the environment, which is why we have been working on a 360-degree recycling solution for retailers for several months,” Chris Kelly, chief executive of Phoenix 2 Retail, said.

“This step is part of our company’s ongoing efforts to tackle the issue of improper vape disposal”.

The company believes that by making recycling units readily accessible and convenient, a greater number of vapers will be inclined to embrace proper vape recycling practices.

In a strategic alliance, Phoenix 2 Retail has joined forces with a certified waste management company to ensure the responsible disposal of the collected vapes.

The process for retailers is straightforward- once the recycling units are filled, the waste management company collects them, promptly replacing them with empty units. Every vape collected via these units undergoes recycling right here in the UK, guaranteeing the eco-friendly disposal of each unit.

Phoenix 2 Retail said the collaboration ensures that all vapes collected through these units are recycled, thereby mitigating the environmental repercussions of non-biodegradable waste.

Last week, a new study by the non-profit Material Focus has revealed that the number of disposable single-use vapes thrown away has quadrupled in a year, from 1.3 million to nearly 5 million per week.

Furthermore, the study found that only 17 per cent of vapers recycle single-use vapes in a shop or local recycling centre.

Phoenix to Retail has also agreed to a long-term partnership with Serve Legal – the market-leading provider of ID and compliance testing services in the UK and Ireland, to protect against underage sales, enhance retailer education and improve performance and compliance for retailers.
